Aaron a été assassiné dans le taudis du Bronx qu'il partageait avec Paige. Cette dernière demeure quant à elle introuvable. Coupable ou en danger ? Prêts à tout pour retrouver leur fille, Simon et son épouse Ingrid s'aventurent dans les bas-fonds de NY. Leurs pas croisent ceux d'une détective privée, Elena Ramirez, qui recherche un certain Henry Thorpe, jeune homme de Chicago disparu qui aurait été en contact avec Paige. Bientôt s'ajouteront d'autres noms, des disparus mais aussi des victimes de meurtre qui, bien que d'horizons différents, semblent tous se connaître. Quel mystérieux lien entretiennent tous ces jeunes gens - exclusivement des hommes, à l'exception de Paige ? Dans quelle sombre histoire a-t-elle bien pu se fourrer ?

To tell the truth, he has a little idea about the question: her junkie boyfriend, Aaron, is obviously responsible for her downfall. Simon is determined to bring his daughter home, no matter what. When Aaron comes between them, he hits him. But too late, it took only seconds for Paige to run away again... Three months later, the police knock on her door. Aaron was murdered in the Bronx slum he shared with Paige. Paige remains nowhere to be found. Guilty or in danger? Ready to do anything to find their daughter, Simon and his wife Ingrid venture into the slums of New York. Their footsteps cross those of a private detective, Elena Ramirez, who is looking for a certain Henry Thorpe, a young man from Chicago who has disappeared and who has allegedly been in contact with Paige. Soon other names will be added, missing persons but also murder victims who, although from different backgrounds, all seem to know each other. What mysterious link do all these young men - exclusively men, except Paige - have? What dark story has she gotten herself into?

Je tiens particulièrement à remercier le site Netgalley et les éditions Belfond de m'avoir permis de lire ce livre.
L'histoire se déroule à New-York de nos jours. On y retrouve Simon qui retrouve sa fille Paige après des mois d'absence et d'inquiétude sale et amaigris faisant la manche à Central Park. Il se demande comment Paige bien éduquée à t'elle pu finir comme cela. Mais il se rend vite compte que c'est la faute d'Aaron son petit ami. Simon veux à tout prix que sa fille revienne chez lui sauf qu'Aaron ne le voit pas sous cet angle la. Paige s'enfuit de nouveau. Trois mois plus tard la police trouve Aaron mort dans un taudis. Quant à Paige elle est toujours introuvable. Simon et sa femme Ingrid vont tout faire pour la retrouver même aller jusque dans les bas-fond de New-York. Ils vont rencontrer une détective Elena qui recherche un homme que Paige aurait vu. De nombreux hommes ont disparus et il se trouve que Paige est la seule femme dans le lot. Que ce passe t'il pour qu'autant de monde disparaisse? C'est ce que l'on se demande en lisant le livre.
J'ai peiné à accrocher à l'histoire mais plus j'avançais dans le livre plus j'ai adoré celle ci que j'ai trouvé captivante, remplie de suspens et de rebondissements avec des personnages attachants.

The story is set in New York City today. It is about Simon who finds his daughter Paige after months of being away and worrying dirty and skinny begging for money in Central Park. He wonders how Paige could have ended up like that. But he soon realizes that it's Aaron's fault, her boyfriend. Simon is desperate for his daughter to come home, but Aaron doesn't see it that way. Paige runs away again. Three months later the police find Aaron dead in a slum. As for Paige, she is still nowhere to be found. Simon and his wife Ingrid are going to do everything to find her, even going into the slums of New York. They will meet a detective Elena who is looking for a man that Paige would have seen. Many men have disappeared and it turns out that Paige is the only woman in the lot. What happens to make so many people disappear? That's what you ask yourself when you read the book.
I had a hard time hanging on to the story but the more I got into the book the more I loved it, which I found captivating, full of suspense and twists and turns with endearing characters.
