A few words about the author :
R J Kaldanis is an old soul at heart and enjoys nothing more than finding hidden places around Victoria, with her two border collies and husband keenly behind.
Growing up in North Queensland, Australia, R J struggled a lot with identity and forever felt out of place. It wasn't until she started travelling that she began to feel the magic the world had to offer and her place within it all. Most recently inspired by her trips to Japan, Russia and the Dalmatian Coast led to her debut novel, The Unblessed Child.
Drawing heavily on childhood influences and the wondrous journeys they offered to distract her from living in poverty to a single father, R J hopes her books will offer others the same escape they need from the harsh realities of life.

R J Kaldanis est une vieille âme et n'apprécie rien de plus que de trouver des endroits cachés autour de Victoria, avec ses deux border collies et son mari bien en arrière.
Ayant grandi dans le nord du Queensland, en Australie, R J a beaucoup lutté avec son identité et s'est toujours sentie déplacée. Ce n'est que lorsqu'elle a commencé à voyager qu'elle a ressenti la magie que le monde avait à offrir et sa place dans tout cela. Ses voyages au Japon, en Russie et sur la côte dalmate l'ont récemment inspirée pour son premier roman, L'enfant non-bienheureux.

Summary :
There are two types of people in The New Realm: those who are blessed by the gods of the four elements and those who aren’t even worthy of their family name. They are unwanted, unloved and are simply known as The Unblessed.
Eighteen year old Aardriyah Veros has it worse than most, forever living in the shadow of her powerfully water blessed brother and trying to survive in a broken and poverty stricken nation, to support her father and little sister. Matters only get worse when after two weeks of vivid nightmares, she finds herself being hunted and kidnapped by a mysterious robed figure, powered by a glowing amethyst eye amulet.
With her elderly neighbour and new found canine friend in tow, our unblessed child sets out on an epic journey to uncover the truth behind her dreams and why she is being hunted. As she traverses the deepest of oceans brimming with terrifying beasts, volcanic ash covered empires and tunnels of haunted kingdoms, Aardriyah learns that there are worse things in The New Realm than being Unblessed.

Je tiens à remercier l'auteure et le site Netgalley de m'avoir permis de lire ce livre.
J'adore la couverture de ce livre où l'on y voit une jeune femme rousse de dos.
On apprend de suite qu'il y a deux sortes de personnes dans le Nouveau Royaume, celles bénies des dieux des quatre éléments et celles qui ne sont même pas digne de porter leur nom de famille. Ceux ci sont indésirables, mal aimés plus connus sous le nom des "non blessés".
On y retrouve Aardriyah Veros qui à 18 ans vit dans l'ombre de son frère béni par l'eau et elle essaye de survivre dans une nation brisée et pauvre. Il faut qu'elle soutienne son père et sa sœur. Sauf que tout bascule après deux semaines à faire des cauchemars où elle se retrouve pourchassée et kidnappée par une mystérieuse silhouette qui est alimentée par une amulette en améthyste rougeoyante.
Avec l'aide de son voisin et son chien, elle va faire un voyage épique en tant que non bénie et va tenter de savoir la vérité qui se cache derrière ses rêves et pourquoi on la traque.
Un livre lu d'une traite tellement j'ai accroché à l'histoire si prenante, captivante, remplie de suspens et de rebondissements avec des personnages attachants. Hâte de lire la suite.

I love the cover of this book which features a young woman with red hair on her back.
You learn right away that there are two kinds of people in the New Kingdom, those blessed by the gods of the four elements and those who are not even worthy of their family name. The latter are undesirable, unloved people better known as the "unwounded".
They include Aardriyah Veros who at 18 years old lives in the shadow of her brother blessed by the water and is trying to survive in a broken and poor nation. She needs to support her father and sister. Except that everything falls apart after two weeks of nightmares where she finds herself chased and kidnapped by a mysterious figure who is fed by a glowing amethyst amulet.
With the help of her neighbor and her dog, she will embark on an epic journey as the unblessed and will try to find out the truth behind her dreams and why she is being hunted.
A book read in one go, so much so that I hooked into the story, so captivating, full of suspense and twists and turns with endearing characters. Can't wait to read the book two.
