Résumé : En Californie, à San Vicente, le juge Pernell Harris est influent, respecté et respectable. Sa vie bascule quand son fils tente de se suicider, car la femme du jeune homme a été violée sous ses yeux. Le juge, profondément choqué par ces actes, se retrouve au chevet de son fils qui est plongé dans le coma.
