In the desert you can’t remember your name
Le documentaire est un format qui a très souvent attiré Michelangelo Antonioni. Pour preuve, il réalisa en 1972 un documentaire par ailleurs licencieux pour l’époque puisqu’il décrivait la vie quotidienne en Chine. Trois ans plus tard sort Profession : reporter, qui représente la symbiose parfaite entre les formes documentaires et fictionnelles. Le film, qui réunit deux stars en pleine ascension, soit Jack Nicholson, qui vient de terminer Chinatown, et Maria Schneider, qui a récemment tourné dans Le dernier tango à Paris, intercale quelques images réelles dans un récit qui mêle habilement la réalité et la fiction pour raconter une fois de plus chez Antonioni une histoire de recherche d’identité.
