Les meurtres étaient presque parfaits
Durant les années 2000, Park Chan-wook s'est fait connaître de la critique et des spectateurs internationaux avec son cinquième film, Old boy. Le film reçut le Grand prix du Festival de Cannes, alors présidé par Quentin Tarantino, qui a dû bien se reconnaître dans cette œuvre à l’ultraviolence stylisée. On se rendit alors compte que le réalisateur coréen avait réalisé auparavant Sympathy for Mister Vengeance, et que sa trilogie sur la veangence sera clôturée avec Lady Vengeance. Puis, Park Chan-wook prit son temps pour se lancer dans des genres aussi différents que la comédie romantique ou le film de vampires, avant de choisir le thriller. Il réalisa Decision to Leave à partir d’une chanson sud-coréenne, Brouillard, qui lui inspira l’ambiance dans laquelle baigne le film.
