Chronique d’un drame annoncé
C’est le scénariste Shaun Grant qui a porté le projet de Nitram, s’inspirant de la tuerie de Port-Arthur, qui s’est déroulée en 1996 en Tasmanie, un État australien. 25 ans plus tard, il s’en souvient encore comme l’un des massacres les plus traumatisants du pays, et qui avait entraîné la mort de 35 personnes. Le projet artistique ne plaît ni aux autorités du coin, ni aux familles des victimes, d’autant plus que Grant prend pour personnage principal l’assassin, Martin Bryant, et du reste Nitram est le palindrome de Martin. Justin Kurzel, qui a travaillé avec Grant pour son premier film, Les Crimes de Snowtown, réalise le film, qui est sélectionné en Sélection officielle au Festival de Cannes, tout comme l’avait été son adaptation de Hamlet. L’acteur Caleb Landry Jones, qui incarnait Le hurleur dans X-Men : Le Commencement, un paumé dans Twin Peaks: The Return, et prêtait son visage si particulier au rôle p
