Le travail de Bertrand Mandico est pluriel, mélangeant divers univers artistiques. Au cinéma, il s’est longtemps consacré aux formats courts, avant de se lancer dans Les garçons sauvages. Il considère ses trois premiers longs-métrages comme une trilogie, qu’il rapproche du concept de paradis, purgatoire et enfer. Tandis qu’il envisageait son premier opus comme une île, After Blue (Paradis sale) serait plutôt une planète. Leurs points communs sont leur aspect fantastique, tout comme le recours à une esthétique très prononcée, deux caractéristiques chers à leur auteur. Pour ce deuxième volet, Mandico a ressorti un projet inabouti qui datait du début des années 2000. Ce western surréaliste devait avoir pour interprètes Guillaume Depardieu, Katerina Golubeva et Maurice Garrel, tous trois morts entre temps, et s’est finalement transformé en œuvre de Fantasy, au croisement de plusieurs genres, dans la ligne dro
