Habitués des albums concepts tels que Dark Side of the Moon, les Pink Floyd accouchent en 1979 de l’album The wall. Enfin on devrait plutôt dire Roger Waters tant son implication dans le projet est primordiale, faisant écho à la place de plus en plus importante que prend le bassiste dans un groupe qui à partir des années 1980 commence déjà à se disloquer à petit feu. Pour parachever son œuvre, Waters fait appel en 1982 à Alan Parker afin de mettre en images les chansons de l’album : ça donnera Pink Floyd The Wall (remercions au passage la traduction française sans qui on ne saurait pas qu’il s’agit bien d’eux), opéra rock halluciné et hallucinant, nous emportant dans un univers foisonnant où la musique du groupe tient une place prépondérante.
