« Je ne m’attendais pas à mener le Championnat quand je suis arrivé il y a un mois de ça au Qatar pour les Tests ! » Tels étaient les premiers mots de Johann Zarco (Pramac Racing) à l’arrivée de ce Grand Prix Tissot de Doha, qu’il achevait une nouvelle fois deuxième place.

Et pourtant, l’Avignonnais se retrouve bel et bien propulsé en tête du Championnat après deux épreuves, quatre points devant le binôme Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) / Maverick Viñales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) : du jamais vu pour lui en bientôt cinq saisons de MotoGP™.
Avant lui trois autres tricolores avaient connu ce privilège en catégorie reine : Pierre Monneret en 1954 et Fabio Quartararo, pas plus tard que l’an passé.
