Et pourtant, l’Avignonnais se retrouve bel et bien propulsé en tête du Championnat après deux épreuves, quatre points devant le binôme Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) / Maverick Viñales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) : du jamais vu pour lui en bientôt cinq saisons de MotoGP™.
Avant lui trois autres tricolores avaient connu ce privilège en catégorie reine : Pierre Monneret en 1954 et Fabio Quartararo, pas plus tard que l’an passé.
