Si la liste de Schindler est le grand film de la réconciliation entre juifs et allemands Le pianiste est celui de la réconciliation entre polonais catholiques et juifs. Le film est l'adaptation du roman autobiographique de Władysław Szpilman un pianiste célèbre en Pologne rescapé du ghetto de Varsovie. Ecrit en 1946, son roman fut censuré par les autorités pro-soviétiques durant un demi-siècle. Il contient également de nombreux éléments autobiographiques de l'enfance de Roman Polanski lui-même rescapé du ghetto de Cracovie. Polanski avait d'ailleurs été pressenti pour la Liste de Schindler mais il avait refusé car le film était trop proche de son vécu.
Le pianiste est bien plus qu'une remarquable reconstitution historique. C'est un film vivant, sensible qui nous fait ressentir de
