The Ocean
I feel my feet kick off the ground,
A gentle push up, not to be drowned.
Total silence at this bottom end,
While Archimedes helps me ascend.
I barely gulp some oxygen,
Too much pressure in this dungeon.
Complete darkness all around me,
Even my own bubbles I cannot see.
[Chorus]
I am rising, a bit anxious,
Moving up, I am suspicious.
But skyward clarity lifts my spirit,
Powerful thrust to which I commit.
Face up, back down in dark waters,
I am rising towards what matters.
Outside’s echoes strangely muffled,
As I rush up to the surface, scuffled.
Air grows rich and my lungs expand,
While the pressure recesses and my pulse stand.
The sky is a faint halo of light,
As I keep soaring with all my might.
[Chorus]
I am rising, a bit anxious,
Moving up, I am suspicious.
But skyward clarity lifts my spirit,
Powerful thrust to which I commit.
Moving faster toward warm embrace,
Like a zoom in on a smiling face.
Ocean whispers turn into song,
And I feel the place where I belong.
Tank and mask delivering air,
My heartbeat dances, I swear.
The Sun piercing in rays of gold,
I’m letting go of the weight I hold.
[Chorus]
I am rising, a bit anxious,
Moving up, I am suspicious.
But skyward clarity lifts my spirit,
Powerful thrust to which I commit.
Sudden exit, my head breaks through,
Water releasing its hold, it’s true.
Sound returns in a wavy chorus,
Making my heart more able to focus.
I let go of my mask in an exhale,
I sip fresh air and let it trail.
The sunlight sparkles on the surface,
I tilt and let it warm up my face.
Vastness of the ocean as far as the eye can see,
I can take any direction, I am completely free.
So warm and light, I just feel alive,
I am roaring to the sky, engaging in overdrive.
You can keep your help to lift me higher,
I have carried my weight and found my own fire.
