How I long, how I search for them when I pass. When I see them standing there, the sailor, the fat woman, the dirty little man with the pipe, I wonder what they will do when they break up and go home. They will think of the pub they have left, the road will be Ionely to the cottage, they will know that they will always be all alone in the world. The sailor will undo his trousers. The fat woman will think of her illness and the dirty little man will burst out crying.
Comme je les attend, comme je les recherche quand je passe[1] ici. Quand je les vois se tenir là, le marin, la grosse femme, le petit homme crasseux à la pipe. Je me demande ce qu’ils feront une fois qu’ils arrêteront et rentreront à la maison. Quand ils penseront au pub qu’ils viennent de quitter, la route sera bien
