Jour n°24 #bake #cuire
‘How much wood would a woodchuck chuck…’
No, it’s not this one. It’s rather : ‘How big cake would a baker bake if a baker could bake cakes ?’
And this one does bake cakes but the Czech sweet specialty.
The dough is the same as for preparing the French ‘brioche’ - the yeast dough, and the treat is called the Czech chimney cake. Trdelnik in Czech.
The baker cuts a small portion of the dough and rolls it into a thick thread. Then she winds it around a special wooden cone form and flattens it in a rolling movement against the table. Next she covers the dough with custer sugar and cinnamon and bakes it on a gas stove. The trdelnik matures and turns light brown rolling around itself on the gas burner. In some minutes you get a fine, crusty and empty cone that can be filled with what you want : chocolate, whipped cream, banana slices, strawberries, pistachio paste or even ice cream. Yummy.
That’s a way to recover the calories you have lost while strolling and visiting the country’s capital.
